    Good Day

In preperation for our cruise south I have purchased a nice used
    radar
unit with an 18" dome and need advice on mounting it.

Seems I have two options, 1. on the front of the mast just above the
Staysail stay or 2. on the backstay.

Option 1 has the dome so far up the mast that I am worried about
putting that much weight so far aloft.

Option 2 is problematic because we have a split backstay and we could
not use any type of pole or strut to keep the dome from turning or
torquing raising concerns of metal fetigue on the back stay. I dont
know if this would be a problem at all but I hate to find out the
    hard
    way.

Any opinions on the best option?

I will try to post a photo so all can get a feel for the locations in
    question
