Ahoy Peoples:
I have been reworking quite a few things on the boat....also the tachometer died a horrible death. Checking on the internet I found that complete tachometer setups can be quite expensive. Perhaps some of you would be interested in my final decision
I found "Tiny-Tach" in Practical Boat owner, a UK magazine. I traced the company down to a USA location.
I bought and installed a "tiny-tach:. It provides:
-RPM
-Total engine hours
-250 hour count down on hours
-250 hour count up
-50 Hour count
PLUS...it is solid state and requires only one wire from tach up in the cockpit down to the engine. At the engine you put a small transducer around one of the fuel feed lines on the engine...apparently the unit counts the number of times the fuel line expands (even metal ones) as the engine turns.
And guess what......IT COSTS ONLY $68.00 USD complete. At that price I can afford to carry a complete spare.
