It depends. The shunt should have its specs stamped on it.
The shunt creates a voltage drop across its terminals. The meter measures
that voltage and displays it as amps. (all meters are basically volt meters
- the more electrons that pass across the shunt - the greater the voltage
drop).
If the new meter has the same current reading at full scale as the old
one it will probably work. If it doesn't match and you want to save a few
bucks, you can make your own. I just made five of them for my boat. Not
hard to do. A fun project. I can give you a few details if your interested.
