    That's a commendable display of seamanship...one that was the norm not too
    many years ago. Today, that would be considered foolhardy; it shouldn't be
    held up as an example for others to emulate.

    As a Coastie with a lot of time in SAR planning and execution, I know of
    many sailors who disappeared forever. Mo' betta to have modern navigation
    and communications equipment aboard...or find another hobby.
