Everyone has an opinion. Here is mine. Raymarine, as a company, is growing, shows product innovation, and should be here a while. That is one strong point.
(Unlike Furuno which has taken a hit by West marine dropping their products
which could put their future in jeopardy).
I recently installed the C80, along with their radar and GPS. It was a cost effective system with all the bells and whistles I needed. But I only sail between
Maine and the Bahamas.
The one thing I have not checked on is do they have the chart cartridges for all of the place I would want to go if I was going to sail away for years. It seems like that would rule Raymarine in or out.
Just some thoughts.

Within a year we hope to leave along the east coast US, then the islands and if all goes well in a few years we hope to go around. I want to add a color chart plotter for our navigation. I currently have mostly Raymarine such as depth, speed and tiller pilot. I saw many different makes at the Miami boat show and still do not know which is best for long term cruising.
What has this group found best for long term cruising and what should be "must have" such as software, communications etc.
