Dave,
The bottom line is: I have 90 meters (300 feet) of the double braid from a prior yacht that was used as an anchor rode and I liked it. I suppose I could cut off the eye splice with thimble, and put a small eye splice without a thimble in the end and through the last chain link - but I haven't seen anyone recommend that or heard from anyone that uses that attachment. I'm spending the Summer in Alaska this year with 4 - 6 meter (12 - 20 foot) tides and deep anchorages. I feel as though I should have the extra scope.

Rather than double-braid you might consider one of the 8- or 12-strand
lines. They retain the stretch of traditional 3-strand nylon with
massively improved stowage factors and greatly reduced hockling. Yale
makes an 8-strand called Brait and includes splicing instructions on
their web site ( http://www.yalecord age.com/html/ pleasure. html ).
