    Hello to all!
I am new to the group today. I'm currently little more than a casual
sailor. I spent many weekends sailing as a kid (mostly as ballast on
the weather rail...) with my Dad, participating in PHRF racing in and
around Boston Harbor. Some years our family would take the boat for a
week's vacation and cruise around the Cape and islands. I do have a
boat of my own, it's just an O'Day Javelin though.
Anyway, I have recently decided that life on land is not for me and am
beginning to gather information about cruising. My ultimate goal, and
the closest thing to a lifelong dream is to circumnavigate the globe.
Luckily I am young and have plenty of time still to accomplish this.
At this early stage I'm trying to figure out the costs, as well as
some of the technicalities (insurance etc...). Although I'll be
interested to figure out what makes a good blue water boat and what
    does not.
    Fair winds for now,
    Geoff P.
