Bryan,
You are not offering information about boat failure. You know nothing more about why that gentlemen lost his keel than anyone else on this thread. But at the outset you made a snide insinuation that is what one gets with production boats. Well, that was simply uncalled-for. As I pointed out with the blisters reference, all boats have compromises and your Valiant is no exception, so don't go throwing bombs at production boats.
What we should be doing is feeling sorry for the poor chap who had a significant property and emotional loss. At least he got away with his life. And when we learn more about the event we can draw conclusions.

That's my belief, based upon this statement:
" Looking down into the pump area he immediately knew he was in trouble
- where the keel bolts had been were three large holes that he could look
through and see the clear water of Lake Ontario that was rapidly filling
the
boat."
What do "three large holes" mean to you? To me, they suggest the fiberglass
ripped away. Rather than simply attacking me, why don't you provide an
alternative? After all, you said, "There could be any number of reasons
besides poor workmanship or design." So give us a few.
BTW, do the words "blisters" and "Valiant" ring a bell?
Sure. What has that to do with this thread? I'll be happy to discuss
Valiant blisters if you'd like. Or you can join the Valiant-Sailboats list
and read my posts and those of others on that subject until you're
satisfied.
I'm not attacking your choice in sailboats, Donald. I'm simply offering
information about a boat failure.
