Remote access is important and Sailtrac does permit this too. You can send either text updates that post automatically to your journal pages or file position reports that update on google maps and auto e-mail your friends network with current information. By the end of the month it will also post Buoyweather reports to your pages from the position report filed at no charge. It is still a site in development but improving daily and was built by mariners for mariners. By July from any wireless device - a digital camera phone or PDA you will be able to forward pics and video that will auto update your pages as well. These can be geotagged with a lat and long coordinate and will post on your custom Google maps as well. You can draw a pre-planned route on a Google map and then file position reports from underway and marry the info together. There are a lot of options to choose from but the idea of paying for service seem unnecessary and a waste of the cruising kitty...

opposed to having to posting entries by filling in a web page. Certainly
makes posting while underway easy. Travellerspoint.com allows this,
supports both public and private postings, pics and videos, maps,
posting notifications, reader comments and feedback, and it's all free.
We've use it and it works.
Cheers,
Mike

Judy,
The site I recommend is www.sailtrac.com. Watch the "help" tutorials and
you will see that both Google map draw features and remote position
reporting tool posting to your own custom Google maps are possible for
free via the domain. You can also geotag photos (post photos with lat
and long coordinates) that will display on map pages. It is a new domain
and new features are added weekly.

John,
We also set up a blog on Sailblogs but chose not to pay for the
Premium service because our primary website is on GetJealous. I have
looked all over the Sailblog pages and cannot find any map/Sailtrac
features available for free, only for Premium members. Also cannot do
the SSB text email updates except for Premium members. That is a
feature that really interests us because GetJealous does not offer
this service.
Are we missing something that really is available for free on
Sailblogs? If so, can you point us to the correct place on the admin
pages to find these services?

service charge. You can build a "friends" network and the system will
auto e-mail them notices about updates on your pages. You can draw
route maps and add remote position reports all for free. Give it a
try...and it also provides you with privacy as you control who can
view your pages and location information...
