PHEW
what a question what are you needs over this extended stop?
QUICK REPLY...................
Yes you can sit in St John BUT 99% of St John is a national park where you
are not supposed to anchor mooring balls only at $20 a night gonna be expensive
and yes they will still charge you $20 a night if you are on your anchor.
Also St John is not great for fuel or water or food unless you want to keep
going back to Cruz Bay You can sit forever in Charlotte Amalie St Thomas IF
you can find a spot to anchor - tis possible but it is noisy and would not be my
choice..............Grt and Little St James are OK if you want to just sit
and vegetate - boat and people watch. Red Hook has possibilities if you can
find a spot big enough for your boat and the North Side of St Thomas has a
few possibilities none that i have investigated yet and they are not high on my
must do list. St Croix would be my fave if you wanted to stay in the USVI's
for six months find a spot west of Protestant Cay and east of the seaplane
area. That wont stop you getting an early morning alarm call when the first
flight takes off or arrives :-). Good shopping is mostly mid island but there
are a few not too expensive stores with walking distance of the anchorage.
snorkel the anchorage and for sure you will find an old mooring or two so you
can hang onto that once you have sorted out the appropriate connection. Water
and fuel at the marina. BUT why would you bother the BVI's are so much
nicer and the possibilities endless.

David

As an aside to this discussion, what do you all think of the USVI as an
extended stop, say over the winter months?
