You'd probably get bored with the BVI after a few weeks. If you got
upwards of 6 months, why not do a bunch of the Caribbean islands. You
could start in the BVI and head down the chain, enjoying as many of the
islands as you'd want. Cheap/expensive is relative - you can be as
miserly or as extravagant as you like. After the BVI - St. Martin jump,
pretty much all the islands are line of sight.
Regarding tour ships in the BVI - they're pretty much exclusive to Road
Town - you won't find too many tourists straying far from the ship's
immediate area except for some over at the Baths.
St. Vincent / Saba / other islands. - Like the BVI, you'll probably be
done exploring them in no time.
Cheers,
Mike

Subject: [world-cruising] where to go . . .
Hello!
I'd love to hear any suggestions you folks may have!
We'd like to cruise somewhere warm, but not too hot . . . somewhere
nice,
but not too expensive . . . somewhere with water, feul, provisions, etc
close by, but not too many touristy types . . . We are looking at
taking several months . . . maybe up to 6 months.
Hahahaha . . . I'm not asking for too much, am I?
We were thinking of the BVI because our research showed that the
prevailing
winds keeps it a bit cooler than some of the other areas? also it is
less
developed than many of the other Caribbean areas . . . but now we are
hearing that the last few years since the cruise ships have been going
in it
is quite touristy and expensive.
So, we were thinking Belize . . . but it seems the sailing isn't so
great
there because of all the reefs? and also it is very, very hot there?
I've heard maybe St Vincent? or Saba? but I can't seem to find much info
about those areas.
What about Trinidad? It is supposed to be out of the hurricane routes?
What about the Sea of Cortez? There doesn't seem to be too much sailing
around there . . .
Thanks so much for any info you can offer!!!
BTW, we are in the PNW, so are thinking we'd fly down and buy a boat
down
there as we really don't want to sail down the West coast and through
the
Panama.
Thanks again, Trish
