When I followed the Harden 45 down thw ICW, we were only a couple of days
appart. I mad some longer stopps. So we experience mauch the same
    reistance.
Using the rule of thumb you quoted my Irwin should have a 16 Hp engine. That
is what the original production boats had. My upgrade to a 30 Hp gave mine 4
Hp per 1000 Ibs. The Hardins with only 60 Hp are just as the rule recomends.
120 hp would bring a Harden closer to 4hp/1000lbs.
    Questions:
    1) What do you think would be the fuel usage difference if two 30,000 lbs
identical boats could both make make 5 kts If boat X had a 60 hp engine and
    boat Y had 120 hp.
Assuming the both had optimum props and the bigger engine could do it with
    less revs.
    2) Would the bigger engine last longer if treated the same way as the
    smaller engine.
I am thinking of similar engine style like Perkins 4/236 vs. 6/354
