Where to meet a great sailing lady. Every year I captain a Swan 46 or Swan
48 for Offshore Passage Opportunities. The flotilla of boats is part of the
North Atlantic Rally to the Caribbean. The rally leaves Newport, RI in
early November and sails to St. Martin with a stop in Bermuda. In late May
we make the north, return trip. The boat I captain is a charter for people
who want to gain offshore experience. Nancy, Marion, Diane, Rebecca are
only a few of the very competent women I have had the pleasure of sailing
with. These women love sailing and adventure but wouldn't mind finding
the right sailor man to cross oceans with. www.sailopo.com ( Mention
Rebecca's name when you call and you will get an instant discount!)

Mike,
Rather than trying to type all that information here, I suggest you head
down to the local West Marine or other marine store and pick up the "FREE"
magazine "48 North" (there are others as well). In there you will find all
the local information about clubs, single sailing groups, etc.. That would
be your best starting place.

Thank you Lynn,
I happen to be a relative tyro when it comes to sailing. I know what I want
to do but don't necessarily have the skills to accomplish it.
We owned a small cabit trailer sailor in Texas but we were only able to take
it out 4 or 5 times before the lake levels dropped below all of the boat
ramps. This is, alas, the extent of my sailing experience.
Can you point me to a local club that would allow me to crew for races, or
any other resource that would let me build some experience?
Thanks,
Mike

Howdy folks,
A few may recall me posting from Austin, Texas; my Bride and I were
fixin' to retire and go cruising at some unspecified date in the
future.
Alas, my Bride indicated that she no longer wishes to be married to
me. Not one to fight the inevitable, I've relocated to Seattle
Washington. The dream of sailing around the world remains intact
albeit without the one with whom I intended to share the adventure.
I'm pleased to report that with the abundance of blue-water boats in
the PNW and my share of the (not insubstantial) assets of our
marriage, I can fulfill the dream in a much shorter time span -
within the next six months to a year.
So, one door closes and another opens. I'll be shopping for a boat
with blue water capability and heading out by and by.
Any advice from the "salts" on the list is very much appreciated.
Fair winds,
Mike Harris
