    An advantage of a deck stepped mast is that there is less leakage into the
    boat. Another is that if the shrouds break the whole mast fall overboard.
    With a keel stepped mast the mast can break of at deck level and the
    remaining section inside the boat if still partly attached can swing around
    and trash up a lot of joinery.
    I have both options occur and I prefer the former.
