Well, seems we're off next august after several years of building and
preparing, destination west-Africa: Gambia, Sao Tome, Namibia, South-
Africa... After that everything would be possible. No need for
extensive planning just yet but in a year or 2 (!?) Brazil and up to
the Caribean comes to mind...
I would like to know if other cruisers are heading this way (West
Africa) and subs. what navigational material they've found to be useful.
Next to all the obvious stuff I grab myself every paper chart I can lay
my hands on, C-Map 93 and Transas Navigator as aid/backup for
unexpected landfalls, ssb for email and gribfiles (winlink), FMD55P for
navtex and marine weatherservices.
I've found a (just the one) suitable pilot by Steve Jones: Cruising
Guide to West Africa.
Fair winds,
Len.
