I saw this on the live-aboard confab. It seemed like something
everyone would be in to.......
Hi all,
After a few discussions with people in this usergroup and on the ybw
forum I've extended our website to include a boating wiki. For those
not in the know a wiki is a resource center that allows anyone to add
and edit pages on articles pertaining to anything boating, from
marina info, boat maintenance, anchorages and so on. The wiki ethos
is that the library is self-governing and as more people edit the
pages, so the information contained within them gets more and more
refined. The obvious example of a wiki that has worked well is
Wikipedia.
I've created this boating wiki in response to yachties complaining
that there is no one central library of information for their queries
and problems they encounter when owning a boat. I'm aware of one
other boating wiki but I'd like to make this one as broad as
possible. It's early work in progress and I'm still open to
formatting ideas but essentially the content is entirely down to
anyone visiting the wiki, so I encourage any of your who have
anything to contribute to add your own pages. This could just be a
simple cocktail recipe, tips on how to anchor, your favourite
anchorage, or details of a favourite sail maker you use. You don't
need to register or sign up, you can hit the deck running and edit a
page immediately.
The wiki will only work with visitors willing to contribute and share
ideas so I positively encourage any of you to check out the wiki and
have a go at adding your own pages. If you need help with editing and
formatting a page I'm more than happy to help but there are plenty of
how-to help files within the library. If you're not keen to try
adding a page yourself but still have an article you'd like to submit
then email it over to me and I'll add it myself. I can't do this in
the long-term but I'm prepared to do this in the short-term to get
the wiki up and running.
Even if you don't want to contribute anything I'd still appreciate
any feedback you may have on the project. You can see FTBWiki here:

Fair winds to you all!
