    Sometimes, yes. Sometimes, no.

    The fact is that the world changes. In active areas, like the South
    Pacific, reefs and even islands spring up where none is depicted on the
    charts. In many coastal areas, channels between ocean and safe harbor
    change daily. Aids to navigation are moved, renumbered, given different
    characteristics, and sometimes eliminated. Problems are much greater than
    misplaced Latitude and Longitude.

    When you're used to sailing in high-traffic areas, you will have charts that
    are updated often. However, go to areas that are more remote and you will
    discover the chart is often in error. I've personally been to places in the
    Philippines where we had to make our own charts, because nothing better
    existed.
