    I hope you didn't think you had to defend yourself Susan.
    As I stated in other posts... My comment to you was not serious.
    BTW How's your passage going ?

    After all... without email we wouldn't have this list..
    Personally I can't see myself going too long without email.
    Sat phone I can do without.
    Email wouldn't do without it.
    As you mention, It plays a very important role to keep in touch with friends,
    both land and shore based.
    In my case it also enables me to make a living.

    This brings up another question for the list...
    How do you use your boat ? (liveaboard, long distance cruising, etc)
    Which gear, other than the basics, would YOU consider essential for that task?
