My input.... Catching the tail end of a Tehuantepeker, circa 1969, leaving Puntarenas, Costa Rica, and not wishing to find Isla Coiba in the dark, We gave wide berth to it and found that we had to run a sea anchor on a 40 foot angleman, to keep us right with the wind and waves. Circa 1969, means sextant and horizons meant a lot, but the clouds kept up during the day along with high winds at night. Not being able to catch a sighting and for some reason the radio quit working , we spotted a rusty fishing boat 3 times our size and with the loud hailer, we found out we were off Buenaventura Colombia. We had made really great time on a storm sail with a 5 knot hull. I would do it again, but methinks that a handheld GPS and a case of batteries would have made us all feel better. Actually we weren't feeling bad, as the bad weather just brought out the rum and the pinochle deck. My point... old new... loud hailer...what ever it takes to get to point a to point b, just as long as its
quiet. Genset you found in the places where it was crowded back then. But then again, I have not been on the water in a while so things change. But I have been double clicking ebay lately, so that might change soon. Tim
