Well minimalist sailing may be what some want, but not me. I am one of
those that has most of the goodies. After 5 years in navy (2 as
Navigation Officer) I can find my way as well as most with a sextant
but ...WHY? GPS is not only more accurate but takes a huge workload off
the crew, thus freeing up more time for the enjoy part.
I have never understood why some eschew modern conveniences. Hell, if
you don't like all these modern things then give up your fiberglass
hull and go back to square rigged sails.
We all have OUR idea of sailing or more generally boating. As long as
we don't impinge on others then why should anyone else care. (and no, I
don't run my 8kw generator in anchorages).
