    I come to sailing with a bit of aviation background. In the latter
    world much thought is given as to what one would do in the event of
    equipment failure.

    I don't subscribe to the minimalist theory that one should not bring it
    aboard unless one knows how to repair it. I do however believe that
    it's foolish to go to sea unprepared for its failure.

    Or unprepared to be driven from one's anchorage by an angry mob when
    your equipment load requires you to run a generator many hours a day,
    for that matter.
