Well, I'll do this again. This time with a subject line. I think you are
ready to go cruising when at least one of the 3 following conditions are
met: 1) you run out of money, 2) you run out of time, or 3) when you
can't remember what you did the day or even a minute before. Since all
3 apply, I think we're there. _Way_ there.

We are about 1 month from throwing off the dock lines and have begun to
have a problem with our cell phone company (Verizon). Apart from our
bill suddenly doubling or tripling (may or may not be accurate, we're
trying to get that figured out with all the codes they use as to what
is and isn't counted, etc.) which may be due to our tracking down
parts, etc., no one on that end seems to have a clue about how to go
about ending service. Apparently they think, on one hand, that it is
just fine to continue service as long as we continue to pay roaming
fees internationally. On another, they want to have some paperwork that
says where we will be living in the foreign countries. Living on a
traveling sailboat seems to be a concept that they are totally
incapable of comprehending as well is having a mail forwarding service
and only receiving mail once or twice a month. Our first port will be
Ensenada and we will be in the yard and the marina there for a short
time and some receipt for that "may" be good enough. Still another
"option" is to "buy out" our remaining contracts at about $175 per line
(2). They are unable to provide connection/service but they want to be
paid for not providing that service.

For those that have gone before us, what have you experienced in making
your "break" with cell phone companies? Any words of wisdom as to what
    works and doesn't work?

    Thanks.

    Rick
