I also thought about a portable AC unit. I first bought one from
Bout/US that fit in the hatch and it didn't cool off the galley enough.
I returned it and decide to look around for other options.
I then purchased an AC unit that fits on top of a RV. It's made by
Carrier and on my third year without any problems. It fits into the
galley hatch and cools off the entire boat. It's a Pearson 36 painted
dark blue and it really gets hot at dockside. The only drawback is that
you need to be at dockside to plug in. Most of our sailing puts us at
dockside so it works for us.
