Au contraire,
One does not actively sail with a Jordan Series Drogue. I have deployed one
more than once. On our Searunner 37 during a 50 kt blow our down wind drift
was less than one knot over a 46 hour period.
As for the down side of a para anchor, consider that when the boat makes
stern way during the slack period between gusts, the rudder is vulnerable
to damage. Also the entire system is subject to shock loading when the boat
fetches up. Not so with a Jordan Series Drogue.
As far a hiding below from braking waves in the cockpit - Not my
experience. I stood in the companion way hatch and watched the waves.
Reminded me of the time I hiked the Grand Canyon. AWSOME.
Jordan Series Drogue. Would not leave the dock without it!
