We are now discussing the applicability of having a printer/scanner
onboard. I can see where it could be a nice to have thing and maybe
even a near need if printing weather forecasts. However, we are small
and space is getting less and less. Several years ago there was a
"roll" shaped printer/scanner from, I think, Cannon but that seems to
have gone away. These days, the smallest footprint is about 7' x 14" x
17" for a unit that slow, uses a lot of ink, and gets less than great
prints.
What's out there right now that has a small footprint, works with both
Mac and PC, is stingy with ink, inexpensive, etc.? If there really is
nothing, what does the modern cruiser do when they are cruising to scan
stuff? Is the digital camera used as a scanner and then cleaned up in
photoshop or run through an OCR application but just forget about
printing? Not everyone (us) will be spending every night in a comfy
marina with all the modern conveniences but will be anchored out in
less inhabited coves or anchorages in major places. What's happening
with printer/scanners in this regard?
