      Interesting twist.
      What struck me, was why did he call his stepdaughter, instead of callign the coast guard directly ? He could have communicated his situation and condition much better.
      How come then things went suddenly dead ? Did the boat capsize right after the call ?
      Unless the guy was really incompetent, not to have the coast guard number on his sat phone....
