Ahmet, winds at flight altitudes are substantially higher than winds at the
surface. If you ever follow the discussions of the NHC forecasters as they
track tropical systems, you'll see them mention how they correct winds shown
in ariel dropsondes to what should exist at surface levels. Wind speeds
change significantly between the surface and the top of a typical sailboat
mast. Ted Hood once mentioned about the easiest way to make a boat sail
faster was to raise the mast by ten feet!

I'm getting very confused about the wind speeds you're quoting. A couple of
posts ago, you mentioned 108 kilometers per hour, now it's 108 knots. The
second is almost twice the first.

Were the wave heights also measured from the aircraft? I've been on USCG
aircraft engaged in SAR operations. I assure you the wave heights are
impossible to tell accurately from any height.
