The very-poorly defined eye of Alberto passed directly over New Bern the
afternoon of the 14th, and went to sea just northwest of Norfolk, VA over
night. While the Chesapeake received a bit of rain, most was well to the
    south of MD.
Barometer here bottomed out at 4PM at 29.6 inches. Max winds around 20
knots. The airport did record one gust at almost 40 knots.

I cannot find any factual information that would support a 100 KT gust the
following day; even half that speed would be doubtful. Did anyon'e
instruments record that gust, or was it just a case of a panic-striken
    individual exaggerating the circumstances?
