When ALberto reached the Ocean again, it intensified and produced winds over 100 knots.
It is typical, it has happened before. The storm hits Florida, goes inland, or along north, off the shore .. off into the Atlantic, creates havoc there, but nobody is around, so it is not reported, and finally dies off.

Granted, once they were in 90 - 100 knot winds and 30 ft waves, it did not
matter much how much preparation they had and how sturdy the boat is. At that
point it is sheer luck if a boat would survive. Can you imagine lying flat on
the ocean almost continiously within 30 ft waves.

No i cant BUT where did these wind and sea figures come from by the time
Alberto was up there it was dying in strength Alberto never was a Hurricane was
only a tropical storm 35 to 64 knots Even if it was a Cat One Hurricane they
only have winds of 65 to 82 knots not that i want to be out sailing in these
sort of winds but a bit of accurate factual info is always a good idea. So by
the time it got up north winds would be below 35 knots nothing like 90 - 100
    knots you are suggesting.

Alberto Storm Warnings Discontinued The National Hurricane Center says
tropical storm Alberto has weakened to a tropical depression over South Carolina
and all tropical storm warnings are discontinued.
