Sound advice, much appreciated. The pole is for use on longer
passages. I prefer the sails to be "fixed", both main and headsail,
    particularly at night.

Bill Pardee pointed me to Forespar. That company ofers a 15'
(collapsed) and 27' (expanded) pole. Weighs 52 lbs in alu. The 27'
ought to suffice for pushing the genoa out.
Also, when collapsed I can use it as a boom for the self tacking
cutter-jib, obviously with some adaptations amongst others for
sheeting and for connecting to the cutter stay.

I think a telescopic pole is the right choice. When the cutter jib
is not used in heavy weather I can store the pole at the front of
the mast in a car that goes up mast. Takes a part of the weight and
momentum out of hands when pushing out the genoa.

An ats will be in the arsenal too. I intend to install a short
ss-"bowsprit" with a sheeting-block, just long enough to keep the
ats free of the pullpit and short enough for easy reach. The block
will permit me to trim the ats more loosely, into a bag-formed sail
with windangles >110 degrees and more tight for courses <110 degrees

Right now I wonder what 2150 sqft ats on one tack causes in terms of
course-stability. Of course we will use a windvane on passages so I
wonder if adding a poled-out genoa at leeward would be a good thing
(to improve steering in light to moderate air I mean).

    Regards,
    Len.
