    Yes that is true in some countries (Belize for instance) It isn't
    true in the US where we are cruising, and I don't think it is true as
    a general thing in Europe. We use plastic to avoid carrying large
    amounts of cash, and also sometimes to avoid paying insurance on a car
    rental.
