Rick I will have plastic as well for emergencies, the trick is to keep a zero balaance on them i use an Amex card now to purchase most things, so I can get air miles. I allso pay it off every month, and never carry a balance. It depends where I am heading on how much cash I will carry, but yes I am going to carry mostly cash.

So, if I read this right, you are going to carry 100% cash so that
    you have no monthly payments?

We have/are doing much the same. Selling the "farm." Nearly 20 year
old boat but upgraded so that most will not go wrong for a while (we
hope). Still there are those nagging payments brought about by the
    plastic.
