    Two components of roller furling systems that should be important to the
    cruiser:
    1. Mounting height. Does your furler interfere with your anchor? If it
    does, can the drum be raised to eliminate that interference.
    2. Open drum. This is another of those "when it happens" not "if it
    happens" issues. At some time, probably in heavy weather when going forward
    will be most dangerous, the drum will jam with a control line overlap.
    Closed drum furlers, like Harken, are much more difficult to clear than open
    drums, like Shaefer and ProFurl.

    Full disclosure: I changed to ProFurl units for both forestay and inner
    forestay many years ago. They've performed flawlessly. Also, they were
    quite easy for an owner to DIY install.
