With the date of departure coming closer the choice of antifouling
gets more important. We have an aluminum hull which is painted with
epoxy and with a selfpolishing Hempel antifouling.
In the warmer waters growth is even more rapid than in the moderate
region where we are now (North Sea).
I would like to know what I should put on for the best result in the
tropics.
Till now I'm considering:
- Coppercoat. I am hesitant cause of the risk of galvanic corrosion
when the hull is scratched and the aluminum gets exposed to salt
water. The man. claims it's ok on alu hulls. Anyone with experience
here?
- Copperthiocyanate. Should be suitable for an alu hull, anyone with
experience here?
- Melkfett. I would like to know if it works before I go on with it.
Anyone?
- Cayennepepper. Is this an old wives tale? Is there anyone really
out there using this in the tropics?
- Selfpolishing Hempel, like I have now. I don't really want to use
it cause I am planning to clean the bottom with a brush every few
months which will remove the Hempel quickly.
I'm looking forward to any related response.
Regards,
Len
