rob patt <> wrote: The dangers of semi submerged containers has been of interest to me for awhile. The best sources of solid information have come from a friend who is in the shipping insurance business and a loadmaster who balances loads for deck placement on ships. Ships lose containers overboard in ruff seas. The ships are loaded to the maximum based on weather and what they think they can get by with. The trip has fixed cost; so more containers are better than less.
The problem is that the cost of insurance is cheaper, than recovery of containers or the keeping them on the ship.
Change the cost equation and the problem would solve itself.
