I spoke with my brother and the report is disappointing. Part of the function of the Interphase forward-looking sonar is a ratio between the depth and distance it can look forward. So in shoal water it has limited distance. He said he had tried in on solid objects to test it out, using a fixed ATON and it wouldn’t even show up. The image is vague and weak.
I asked about reef use and he pointed out that most reefs, ones that he has been diving on move from 2000 feet of water to 20 feet in a very short distance (40 feet), they are walls.
The one positive point was the possibility of using two units on a catamaran, with the distance separation of the hulls to give more input information.
