    Interphase says they use a 10-12 deg downward angled beam depending on the
    model.

    So to see a shipping container at 12 ft depth you need to be no more than
    about 100-90 ft from it. Much too close to be of much use for dodgeing
    shipping containers.

    The min depth I was refering to is the depth of your boat minus this beam
    angle factor.-Ken
