From what I have been able to determine (just based on my own
experiences with SONAR and the info on the web), these should work
without a problem in waters like the Chesapeake Bay.
The issue will be as Richard indicated ... much of the bay is basically
shallow waters, so that will (most likely) limit what it is able to see
in front of the vessel.
I suspect that this is a transducer that you would want to mount as
close to the bow as is reasonable. That would help, but it would not be
practical on a "go-fast" boat.

How well does it work in waters that are full of sediment? i.e. does
the water have to be clear, or could you use it in the Chesapeake?
