This is an intresting subject to me also. I have very little multi hull
sailing exp. but know some who do. I think multis have many, many advantages
over monos...but carrying weight and ease of sailing in a bad storm are not
their best points, at least from the folks I have talked to who own/owned
them.
As for me, even in rather extreme conditons, 70 kts of wind and 35+ ft seas,
I can set the wind vane, sheet the storm jib (if I am not running under bare
poles downwind) and go to the windward bunk with the lee cloth to hold me in
and be just fine, I've done just that...in a 25 ft boat. I admit that I am
getting to the age where I am no longer un-effected by such conditions as
far as fixing a nice pot of chili and may even forgo my morning cup of
expresso <G>.
Of course as was pointed out, the smart thing to do is not be there in the
first place, but it can't always be helped, can it?
I hope some other more experianced cat sailors on the list will come foward
with their experiances in such storms. Maybe dispell some myths, either
way.-Ken
