Hi again list,
It been my experience in life that when two people disagree about
something, to understand the issues it is useful to understand not only
what each side believes, and also what each side neglects.
I rarely disagree with the sentiments expressed by the mono side of the
cat/mono debate. I had a 40' steel Van de Stadt cutter for a number of
years. This is me in my single-handed period.

I also tend to agree with the Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS) philosophy,
and am wary of complexity.
However, what each of those positions seem now to me to neglect is the
'Woman Factor'.
There are plenty of women who are happy with a simple monohull. There
are plenty who are not. I believe that for every sailing dream that ends
with a rock or a capsize, there are many more that sink in a divorce court.
I am under new management, and we have signed off on a 45' Lightwave
catamaran for a couple of years time. We attended a regatta of cat
owners recently. The thing that struck me was that it was couple scene,
with women actively involved. Mono meetings I have attended previously
were dominated by blokes.
Horses for courses.
But I do want to be able to set up and sail the cat safely.
Cheers
Dave
