Unfortunately she has been ransacked, so Richard Woods decided not to salvage her

Eclipse has been found floating. In other words she survived the storm
    without any human help.

nothing new there a mono went all the way to Hawaii without human help when
the owners bailed out in a storm - all of the boats that got beaten up in the
Force 10 Fastnet Storm stayed afloat.

Re the difference between mono and cat when a puff hits? The mono
heels and spills, the cat accelerates. You do not run off in a cat,
    you luff up and reef.

totally dont agree there if you hold your course both will accelerate until
they hit the wall where the power equals drag i was not talking about a puff
but a situation where you are sailing in 30 plus knots of wind and as to
luffing up and reefing you cant luff up in your cat when your grossly
overpowered as then you will be totally overpowered you will bring the rig down or
    capsize.

I also feel you are over playing the monos' ability to look after you when
    the going gets rough.

your welcome to your opinion - totally dont agree with you - monos are self
    tending cats are not.

A beam on mono is likely to roll,
why would it roll over? now your in fantasy land :-( monos can roll over in
big seas and if you read the post i made from Richard Woods his big worry
was being rolled over in a big sea so i cant see the cat having any real
advantage there either - in fact the mono would have a big one where if it did get
rolled over it would come back up the right way where the cat would be upside
    down

    taking the rig off.
    more fantasy

If that rig goes through the hull you are going to the bottom.

how did this rig get into the water in a gust the mono will heel over and
reach a point of balance with the angle of heel balancing the strength of the
wind and the lead in the keel - a cat cant heel so in the same situation will
    capsize or drop the rig.

I'd rather be in an overturned cat any day.

    Andy

Oh My - typical cat comment when you cant win the argument :-(

I notice the highly experienced cat designer and cat sailor Richard Woods
did not share you desire to try and live in an overturned cat - he bailed out
pretty sharply once he thought there was a possibility of being capsized. So
easy to be brave here behind your PC and pontificate. I am a cat fan but not
a blind one i know most of the advantages and disadvantages of monos and
cats - cats are fine for short distance cruising two weeks charter sailing and
liveaboard where your not crossing oceans in all weathers - if you want to do
that then a good fast and good load carrying monohull wins hands down. You
be happy in your overturned cat i would rather be safely sailing on in my much
    safer monohull.

    regards

    David
