And there's the rub, There are many offshore-capable (really off-
shore), 30' sailboats; not many powerboats. If we just move up 5',
I'll put my HR 35 against any 35', off the shelf Trawler for
crossing oceans and I find it quite comfortable for my purposes.

    Quite agree.

I have to agree with you but that is not why I 'put to sea'.

Well, the name of this group is "World-Cruising" and it's not just a
matter of funds. I just feel so much safer in bad conditions on a
proper sailboat. And while size might matter, I mainly single hand
so I don't want size I want a properly founded boat that will do
what I want it to do.

At the higher end of the market, there's parity.

Now there's a 'do it on the cheap' couple :-)

Screw heresy. Heck, twin screw it :-)

I can't speak for others but I'm not sure that there is anything
wrong with talking about cruising in a powerboat. A number of years
ago someone posted to another cruising group to ask for suggestions
about the best PWC for cruising around. We referred him to the
    missile site:-)
