I am a relatively new subscriber, a lurker as it were. I hope this is
not inappropriate or a re-hash of a recent topic - the group is
focused on world cruising, which I realize most folks do in
sailboats, but power cruising is becoming increasingly popular.
Searching the archives, I found a thread on circumnavigating in a
    motorboat.

Idlewild, a 55-foot aluminum trawler started a circumnavigation last
year with the Northwest Passage. They've rounded Cape Horn and
completed a 4800 nms crossing to Australia. From their website,
here's the specs on the boat (www.ildewildexpedition.com):

"[Idlewild] is a powerboat with a 55 hp motor. We get about 6.5 kts
(7.5 mph) with a fuel burn of 1.3 US gallons per hour and 1000
gallons of fuel on board for a range of 5,000 miles. We also carry
400 US gallons of water. Sleeps four people plus a sea berth in the
    wheel house."

To be sure, this was a purpose-built boat for a sprint around the
world. But still, it's an impressive trip.

I can also tell you that a sister ship to my Willard 36 trawler (Wm
Garden design) crossed from San Diego to Hawaii in 1987 and burned
about 350 gallons, around 0.9 gph at 6 knots according to the owner.
