    >> As an aside, anyone have any opinions on the Sailrite sewing
    machines?

I have the LRZ zigzag model with the heavy flywheel. Its pretty good.
It definitely will go through very thick stuff. I sewed thick leather
patches onto the thick winter storage cover. I have not used it a lot.
I like the ability to turn it slowly by hand, I have done some very
thick intricate stuff with that feature. I thought the small throat
would be a problem, but I have been amazed at the large pieces I have
been able to work on. It has few bells and whistles, just straight
    sewing with some horsepower.
