    Hi Doug,
In the Long Beach area they offer sailing classes through the junior
college. They may have something similar in your area. The only caution I
can offer, is these will be light boats and will not handle like cruising
    boat.

In my case, Iım putting off sailing lessons until we buy the boat. Then I
will have private sailing lessons and learn how to sail her.

While looking for her, I took coast guard sailing classes, got my Ham
    license, and developed other skills.

I agree with Gordon, donıt wait until you have all your ducks in a row.
Start as soon as possible to find the boat you want and start sailing.

There is a small marina in Antioch that is modern with a nice restaurant.
Kinda long way from the ocean, though.

    Cheers,

    Sharon
