Conventional wisdom, Sez you duck into the ICW somewhere in the Charleston SC vicinity. The cape Hatteras area isn't the best place to be sailing. As you go north the Gulf Stream moves further away from the coast. There is a point where it will do you no good to stay in the stream. You will also be hitting fronts on the nose this time of year, the good news is they will become less frequent as the summer rolls in.
The most dangerous item on the boat is going to be the calendar.
