There are alot of boats there... I am in the process of buying one rt
now. WARNING:The Ft Lauderdale police and justice system is very
corrupt!! I've been there twice since Nov and am flying there
tomorrow for my "survey". In Nov when I went there for the 1rst time
to look at potential boats I was assaulted by an employee of a bar
and foolishly thought that reporting it to the police would be a good
idea. The cop that showed up said that if I said anything that he'd
arrest me. I couldn't believe what was happening and tryed to report
it anyway and was subsequently arrested and charged with made up
charges. It turns out that a lot of cops there "moonlight" as
security for bars and therefore will do what is best for the bar-
owner(their boss) and not you... The long and short of it was that
though I could have easily won in court in normal circumstances it
would have cost upwards of $5000 plus travel expenses to fight it
there. Before you jump to conclusions about the circumstances please
note that I am a 38 yr old businessman who has never been in a bar
fight or even asked to leave. This cost me over $1000 and may affect
my captains license. I've been to Baja 6 times and believe me, Ft
Lauderdale is far more corrupt then Mexico!! This really opened my
eyes about how dangerous to law abiding Americans some of the
provisions in the "Patriot Act" are as it is so easy for those in
power to abuse it.
On the upside I found a great boat and if all goes well with the
survey/ test sail I will be a very happy person in a week or 2!
