I'm reposting this as it did not post the first time for some reason.
...
Illegal to single-hand?!?! Well that sounds like a good reason to buy
a "blow-up doll"!!!! Dress it up
in foul weather gear! Haha!
So I am in the begining stages of planning to bring a boat back from
Florida to Wisconsin. We haven't
"closed" on the boat yet so there is a possibility that the survey
will turn up things that may null the
deal but it is very likely to go through. Anyway, I haven't done
this trip up the east coast and was
looking for some of the list's wisdom! I know that you are never
supposed to be in a hurray on a sailboat
but time is a bit of a concern. I am considering provisioning the
boat for 10 days and sailing directly
from Merrit Island, Fl to New york without stopping! I've heard that
one can catch a ride on the Gulf
Stream for for most of that leg thus boosting boat speed a few knots.
Has anyone on the list done this?
Is there a lot of traffic? I will have enough crew to run 24 watch
etc... After the 1rst leg, the plan
is to go up the Hudson, remove the mast and continue to Lake Ontario
where the mast will be stepped. I
have been told that this would be quicker then following the cannal to
Lake Erie. From there through the
Great Lakes to WI. My rough plotting has shown approx 2200 nat miles.
It is rough because I didn't plot
every turn in the ICW!!! I am thinking a month... the boat is capable
of motoring at 7-8 knots though I
hope to use the motors as little as possible. Also, any sense of what
weather to expect in May would be
appreciated. Thanks
