Here are a few of the things that I can think of in prep for World Cruising. I hope some of them maybe useful, or spark a idea.
Started sailing when I was a baby, I actually remember sleeping on the anchor line and life jackets. I have noticed that there are some strange similarities with children raised on boats and world cruising. Junior sailing as a teen then racing big boats. Teach Sea Scouts as an adult, this is a wonderful resource to be around other knowable adults.

SCUBA diving useful for cutting the prop clear of entanglements from fishing lines, crab pots. Checking, setting, retrieving an anchor. Changing zincs. Cleaning and inspecting the hull.

Read and talk with people who have gone cruising for many years to learn what works. Study why some couples make it and others don’t. I have had the opportunity to speak with one couple that sailed around for 16 years.
I sailed down the coast of California with one couple who have been sailing around the World since 1998. This couple was great teachers. Master IV (USL) Skipper's Ticket, Sailing Instructor (R.Y.A/A.Y.F.), Scuba Dive Instructor, 40+ of Years Sailing Experience.
Sailed up the coast from Channel Islands with a skipper who was 23 years coast guard, academy sailing team, and navigation instructor.
US Sailing Seminar Safety at Sea for what works and surprises about what doesn’t work!
Coast Guard Aux Advanced Coastal Navigation. Power squadron basic boating.

Reading lists with the two ends of the spectrum Lin & Larry Pardey go cheap, go now and the Dashews with the luxury.
Trained as an EMT, Advanced Wilderness Medicine, four year expedition medicine department of Navy.
