4 things you can't take too much of:
1. Peanut butter. Anywhere there is a French influence, the bread is great. A great breakfast was to buy a fresh loaf of bread from the truck that drove by our anchorage on Moorea. Slather it up with PB and wash it down with Marquesan Coffee that we picked and processed. Never ate much PB before or after our cruise but consumed it in great quantities while out sailing.
2. Pop Corn. Great for snacking, easy to whip up and doesn't spoil, if you keep it dry. The pan popped stuff tastes way better than the micro wave yuck, though that may have been a factor of more oil. We made it with equal parts oil and popcorn. Of course, if you use Non Hydrogenated/transfat oil it may even be good for you.
3. Hot sauce. If you like a little spice in your life, a lot of Tabasco, Trappeys, etc. can liven things up. Really liked the hot sauce with Aku (bonita) stew or barbeque goat.
4, Rice. A great starch that stores well and goes with everything. My wife is Chinese so we took plenty but other cruisers were always complaining that they didn't bring enough. Rice was available everywhere but way more expensive than in America.
We ran out of the first three of the above within a couple of months of getting to the Marquesas. Nearly ended our cruise. Luckily we ran into a couple who had to return to America, prematurely, and we bought their entire stock of PB, PV, and HS. A small jar, and I mean real small, of was over $3.00 in the Marquesas in 1977 dollars.

While I agree with both Tim and Judy - i will also
disagree. You have to start somewhere and a brief
list is a starting point. Someone asked me once when
I would be through studying sailing and i told them I
will never quit as i will never learn enough to say i
know a lot. I have read several books on getting
started, attended seminars, talked to a lot of folks,
looked over numerous lists and still feel that i have
a lot to learn. the more the better. In the end we
all have to make up our know minds and make our own
decisions and live with them. the more input the
better.
